Atopic Dermatitis (AD) is a common, sometimes chronic, skin disease that affects between 10 and 20% of people worldwide. In the United States alone, the occurrences have nearly tripled in the last 30 to 40 years. The skin inflammation of a patient suffering from atopic dermatitis is the result of both cellular and antibody-mediated immune responses. IBT Laboratories performs tests which aid in the understanding of genetic, environmental, and microbial factors that play a role in the disease etiology. Results from these tests help direct and monitor treatment for patients with atopic dermatitis.

Chronic urticaria (CU) is a skin disorder which affects approximately one percent of the population. Patients with CU suffer from recurrent, transitory, pruitic erythematous wheals on the skin that occur for at least six weeks. Subpopulations of CU patients have an autoimmune basis for their disease. IBT Laboratories offers tests that identify patients with the autoimmune form of CU. This valuable information helps the patient understand their disease and can also be used to consider drug therapies that modulate basic immunological aspects of the disease.
